There are five different weather warnings in place across the UK for both snow and ice. But what does this mean?

Yellow Snow and Ice Warning:

What are they? A yellow warning for snow and ice means winter showers could cause icy crusts to form on roads, pavements and cycle paths, as well as snow.

Where are they? A yellow alert has been issued for northern Scotland, most of northern Ireland, the east coast of England, east Anglia to Aymouth, just south of Edinburgh, parts of the West Midlands and parts of mid Wales.

What are the implications? Travel times on roads and rail can be long, there may be patches of ice on roads, pavements and cycle paths and there is a risk of injury from falls or slipping on ice.

Yellow Ice Warning:

What are they? Unlike the current snow and ice advisory, this warning means that while no snow is expected to fall, ice patches are expected to form this evening and overnight.

Where are they? In fact, ice warnings apply to many parts of the UK, including parts of Birmingham, Oxford, Cardiff, London, Bath, Stoke-on-Trent and Exeter.
