What happened at the first meeting of the Reform and Governing Council?

A motion was put forward to review “all current council spending related to net zero and climate-related initiatives” to ensure they provide “clear value for money”.

Net zero refers to a state in which greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere are in balance with greenhouse gases removed.

The UK has a legal commitment to achieve net zero by 2050 under legislation passed by Tory Prime Minister Theresa May in 2019.

This means the UK must reduce its carbon emissions until it eliminates as much emissions as its production under the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

Nationally, Reform has said it wants to scrap net zero entirely, a move echoed by county councils it runs, including in Essex and Lincolnshire.

Conservative Kay Mason Billig, who was leader of the council before the election, said the move to reform appeared to be due to “an edict from their master, Nigel Farage”.

She said the council’s environmental policy, outside of the term ‘net-zero’, was already focused on efficiency.

“If we are replacing diesel vehicles with electric vehicles because they are cheaper to lease and operate, that is what we are doing,” she said.

Green Party leader Jan Davis said reducing energy use would help cut costs, but warned Norfolk was particularly at risk from flooding and coastal erosion.

In response, Jason Butler, the new efficiency cabinet member, said, “I will not follow ideology.”

He added that the review was about “balancing priorities, whether it’s climate change or spending on essential services.”

The reform proposal was ultimately voted on and passed with GYF’s support.

The two parties also voted together to cut three political aide jobs in parliament to save around £164,000 a year.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
