Beaumont wants volunteers to study how long the COVID-19 antibody lasts
Beaumont Health has begun research to better understand how vaccine-induced COVID-19 antibodies are developed and how long they last.
According to hospital officials, this study, a COVID-19 vaccination-induced response or “cover,” will allow participants to monitor immunity to COVID-19 over the next two years.
Researchers are interested in the immune response of people with weakened immunity, such as transplant patients and those taking immunosuppressive drugs because of their autoimmune status.
Gabriel Maine, lead researcher and immunologist, said that the more people who know about the vaccine response, the more they can protect themselves from COVID-19.
“As for the potentially catastrophic effects of COVID-19, we are particularly interested in people with weakened immunity because we are some of the most vulnerable people,” said Maine.
This study is applicable to the first 1,000 people over the age of 18. There are 500 people with weakened immunity and 500 people who have not weakened immunity and want to monitor antibody levels.

Participants must be within 30 days of receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine or within 7 days of enrolling in the study, officials said.
Participants are expected to participate in 7-8 visits to the Royal Oak or Troy’s Beaumont location. This includes blood draws every 3 months in the first year and 18 and 24 months in the second year.
Participants can track antibody responses to COVID-19 vaccination, and all antibody test results will be shared with each study participant through the myBeaumontChart account, officials said.
