Causes of concern when Delta Variant health authorities promote vaccination
Charlotte, NC – As the Delta variant spreads to Carolina, health officials are delivering wake-up calls.
“It hasn’t disappeared,” said a woman at the Pineville Shopping Center.
For many, the pandemic continues while taking precautions.
“I still try to stay away from people and wash my hands. I’m doing everything I can,” the shopper continued.
Delta variants currently account for 83% of cases nationwide, leading to increased hospitalization in the region.
“We don’t want to see the tragedy. We don’t want a situation where people don’t decide to get vaccinated until something serious happens or something happens to their loved one,” Novant Health said. Dr. David Priest said.
Dr. Priest says he sees more Covid patients at all Novant hospital locations. 15% of patients need a ventilator. The average age is in the mid-40s. And 99% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated.
“It’s time to get vaccinated. This is the only way we can slow the spread of these new, more contagious variants,” said Dr. Priest.
Priests say young people are still behind when it comes to vaccination rates.
“Now more generally, we’re almost indifferent, especially millennials and Gen Z, who don’t see it as a threat,” said Dr. Priest.
Health officials say it may be important to stop children wearing masks at school from spreading this fall.
“Since the children are not vaccinated, it is believed that when they return to school, they need to do everything they can to reduce the infection there,” said Dr. Amina Ahmed of Atrium Health. I will.
She says most children have not experienced a serious Covid illness, but still have a high infection rate.
“Adults are vaccinated, so in the last few weeks, 20-25% of all cases in the United States are children,” explained Dr. Ahmed.
