Recently reported school outbreaks at Lombard Middle School
Galesburg — Last week, nearly 200 more COVID-19 cases were reported in Knox County.
Between September 24th and Friday, 188 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Knox County, for a total of 6,902 cases.
This is equivalent to the total number of cases in the previous week when 192 cases were confirmed between September 17th and 24th.
According to state data for the week ending September 25, ICU availability is below the state warning level of 19.2%, compared to the previous week when 16.4% of ICU beds in the county were available. Has also been slightly improved.

According to state data, there were 14 hospitalizations for COVID-19-like illness in Knox County during the week leading up to September 25.
The Illinois Public Health Service is tracking outbreaks in schools where local health departments have shared exposures on school grounds and identified two more COVID-19 cases from different households.
An outbreak of one new school in Knox County was reported by the state on Friday. The data show 5-10 cases in Lombard Middle School exposed in the classroom.
Across the state, there were 18,735 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed since last Friday, with 236 additional deaths.
An additional COVID-19 death was reported in Knox County last week, bringing the total to 167.
As of Thursday, 1,833 people in Illinois were reported hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 447 patients were in the ICU and 236 COVID-19 patients were on mechanical ventilation.

Booster shots available in Knox County
The Knox County Health Department provides additional immunization of the Pfizer vaccine in certain populations and in some occupational and institutional environments, following the recommendations of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“We continue to fight COVID-19. The number of cases continues to grow and we want to continue to provide maximum protection to Knox County residents,” said Knox County Health Department Public Health Management. Will Hayes, an assistant to the scholar, said.
Booster doses are available at all Knox County Unified Command Vaccine Clinics and can be administered at least 6 months after the first vaccination series.
According to the CDC, a “booster dose” is another dose of vaccine given to a person who has built sufficient protection after vaccination but whose protection has declined over time.
According to the Ministry of Health, this is called weakened immunity.
The booster dose is recommended for people over the age of 65, residents of long-term care facilities, and people between the ages of 50 and 64 with underlying illness.
