Cape Town-as much as possible Authorities confirmed Thursday that 150 health workers at Cape Tiger Hospital in Cape Town tested positive for Covid-19.
In a short statement, the hospital said the affected people came from Different categories of staff, but dDue to the confidentiality of the patient, no further details could be disclosed.
“It’s been pointed out throughout the healthcare system, and in other sectors there are several health workers affected and isolated at home,” said Spokesperson at Tiger Burgh Hospital, Laticia Pienar. However, this was a delivery that did not adversely affect the hospital service.
“We have staff and specialists on duty to provide uninterrupted and quality service to patients in the hospital,” she said.
on Wednesday Anncha Kepkey, a specialist nurse and assistant manager in the trauma and emergency department of Tiger Burg Hospital, died after a Covid-19 contract.
Kecky was the third nurse to die of Covid-19-related illness After the second death of Western Cape and Tigerburg Hospital Ntombizakithi Ngidi.
Earlier this month, Elsteriver’s nurse Petronera “Antinerie” Benjamin, 62, died the day before he retired after working for decades as a healthcare worker.
This hospital is one of the first to open the first designated coronavirus isolation ward in the country and is located in what is considered one of the hot spots for the coronavirus epidemic in South Africa.
As of Thursday, the total number of Covid-19 cases confirmed in South Africa was 19 137, or 12153 or 63% of those cases in the Western Cape.
Covid-19 also has the highest number of deaths in the state, with 235 out of 369 in Western Cape.
“There was no model that could predict the situation in the Western Cape (state) in advance,” Health Minister Zwelini Mkhize told journalists on Thursday. “The surge in incidents in the Western Cape is beyond expectations and may require additional intervention to try and contain those numbers.”
Cape Town is expected to peak around the end of June and the rest of South Africa is expected to peak in August or September.
Cape Town and Western Cape are six to eight weeks earlier than other parts of South Africa, according to medical experts.
“The lessons we are learning now are shared with the whole country,” said Dr. Noma French Mumbombo, Chief Health Officer of the Western Cape.
