Earthquakes hit Batangas, Occidental Mindoro – PHIVOLCS – GMA News Online

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said earthquakes were recorded in Batangas and Occidental Mindoro on Monday afternoon.

In its seismology bulletin, PHIVOLCS said a 5.3-magnitude earthquake, which is tectonic in origin, was recorded 24 kilometers southwest of Calatagan, Batangas at 5:12 p.m.

She also said that Intensity III was felt in Quezon City while Intensity II was felt in San Felipe, Zambales.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 99 km.

In another earthquake bulletin, PHIVOLCS said a 5.5-magnitude earthquake shook 23 kilometers northeast of Palawan City, Occidental Mindoro at 5:12 p.m.

It is also tectonic in origin and has a depth of 104 km.

The fourth intensity was felt in Calatagan, Batangas and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro while the third intensity was felt in Batangas City, Limere, Malvar, Bauan, Batangas; Tagaytay City and Amadeo, Cavite; Quezon City; Manila City; and the city of Pasay.

The second intensity was also felt in the city of Taguig; Mandaluyong City, Makati City, Caloocan City, Malabon City Tanay, Rizal; and San Felipe, Zambales.

PHIVOLCS said aftershocks are expected in earthquakes.

No tsunami or damage is expected from the earthquake, said Renato Solidum, president of PHIVOLCS.
