Island Health declares three more COVID outbreaks in long-term care facilities
Island Health has declared three more COVID-19 outbreaks at care facilities in Victoria, Port Alberni and Parksville.
Mount St. Mary Hospital in Victoria, Echo Village in Port Alberni, and Allomis Lodge in Parksville are three new facilities that have been added to the Island Health’s increasing outbreak list.
Currently, there are 25 long-term care facilities currently occurring within the health authorities and one acute care facility.
Health authorities are implementing comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in long-term care, acute care, life support facilities, and licensed care facilities, with each site in the latest wave of the virus. It says it will support it.
As part of Island Health’s response to each outbreak, there is no admission or transfer at the outbreak facility. During the outbreak, all group activities and collective meals will be interrupted and screening of all staff and residents in the field will be enhanced.

Mount St Mary’s Hospital Victorian care facility
Two resident cases have been identified and the declaration of outbreak is confined to the Cedar House.
Mount St Mary’s Hospital is owned and operated by the Marie Esther Society.
Echo Village Nursing Care Facility in Port Alberni
Seven resident cases have been identified in connection with this outbreak.
Echo Village is owned and operated by the Alberni-Clayoquot Continuing Care Society.
Arrowsmith Lodge nursing facility in Parksville
Two resident cases limited to cottonwood and dogwood units were identified in connection with this outbreak.
Arrowsmith Lodge is owned and operated by the Arrowsmith Health Care Society.
According to Island Health, these reported cases have been confirmed by PCR testing or follow-up from the authorities’ case and contact management teams.
