Improving vaccination rates, a top priority for the P & SH sector: Secretary Health
LAHORE: Imran Sikander Baloch, Executive Director of the Primary and Secondary Health (P & SH) Division, said improving vaccination rates through innovative solutions is a top priority for the P & SH division.
He said in a message on Sunday as Punjab is preparing vaccination and immunization awareness activities in all 36 districts as part of World Immunization Week 2022, which will be commemorated worldwide from April 24th to 30th. I mentioned this.
Punjab, an expanded program on immunization, has taken this opportunity to develop a comprehensive plan that emphasizes the use of vaccines as an important intervention to save lives from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Imran Sikander Baloch said: “By utilizing basic life-saving interventions such as vaccination, many young lives can be saved. The benefits of immunization need to be shared equally among all. P & SH Department Has taken all steps to ensure equitable access to immune services for all, especially the poorest and most marginalized.
Our goal is to eliminate bottlenecks and improve the quality of service. The Punjab State Government is working to eventually fill all vacant posts, including vaccinated people, to expand access and immunity coverage.
The theme for 2022 was “Longevity for all. I lived in pursuit of longevity.” The ultimate goal of World Immunization Week is to protect more people and their communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3.2.1 envisions ending preventable deaths in newborns and children under the age of 5 by 2030.
Dr. Haroon Jehangil Khan, Director of Health at Punjab, said the 2022 World Immunization Week is also an opportunity to increase demand through the active involvement of a wide range of stakeholders. He states: “Vaccines not only prevent death, but also reduce illness and disability and have a wide range of health, social and economic implications. Between 2010 and 2018, measles vaccine alone has 23 million people worldwide. Death was avoided. “
EPIPunjab Director Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Awan said Punjab can be prevented with 12 vaccines including pediatric TB, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, Hib pneumonia, meningitis, typhoon, rotor-related diarrhea, rash and rubella. He said he would provide free vaccinations for various illnesses. These are managed through state-wide EPI outreach and fixed centers. He said Punjab has introduced two new antigens, hepatitis births and DTP boosters, into routine immunization schedules.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed also established a new EPI center through public-private partnerships with PPA, PMA and the Association of Family Physicians to recruit new vaccinated people for coverage issues in slammed areas and poorly serviced urban areas. He said the solution was to raise public awareness by giving mobile vaccinations.
He said the program introduces innovative strategies to increase coverage in the Southern and five megacity districts. He also appreciated the role of partners and donors such as UNICEF, WHO, GAVI and BMGF to expand technical, financial and in-kind support for Punjab’s immunization program.
