Seven counties in Wisconsin infected with high levels of COVID-19 activity
Madison, Wisconsin (WMTV)-Seven counties in Wisconsin have registered high levels of COVID-19 activity as other counties move from low to medium status.
In less than a month, the map tracking the COVID-19 community level on the Health Services Department’s website was completely green. This reflects what the CDC considered all counties to be in the low category.
Since then, the county has begun to turn yellow as it moves to the medium level. On Friday, Wisconsin saw the first orange, or high county, since DHS switched to CDC community-level reporting instead of its own classification system. There were no septets in south-central Wisconsin.
However, the number of yellow colored counties in the region has increased to eight. Rock Co., one of the counties that sees CDC levels deteriorating, issued a statement on Thursday pointing out the change.
In it, Locke’s Public Health Service noted an increase in the number of cases by 275 per 100,000 inhabitants, but noted that hospitalizations and beds did not change significantly. It was due to the high vaccination rate in the county.
“We are cautiously optimistic that the level of immunity we currently have in the community will prevent some of the serious illnesses we have experienced with the previous COVID-19 surge,” said Health Officer Katrina Harwood. Said. About 2 weeks delay from the increase in cases.
The deterioration of the CDC’s community level map is also reflected in the tough numbers reported daily. DHS reported that it aggregated 2,517 cases on Friday. This is the third highest number per day in the last three months. Only the last two days have exceeded this latest total.
Combining the Friday total with the Wednesday and Thursday highs, the 7-day moving average has risen again to 2,095 per day in the past week. That number hasn’t been seen since mid-February when the state left a record January powered by the first Omicron variant. The current total is well above the month, but much lower than the surge at the beginning of the year.
A single death reported by DHS on Friday reduced the 7-day moving average to 3 per day. Since the beginning of the pandemic, health officials have recorded 12,954 deaths from COVID-19 or virus-related complications in Wisconsin.
