Tennessee: A minor earthquake struck the town of Tennessee

Two earthquakes hit the same parts of northeastern Tennessee early Tuesday morning, May 31.

The initial quake was recorded at 3 a.m., according to the US Geological Survey. Its magnitude was 2.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 8 miles northwest of New Bern, Tennessee.

There was only one report of this earthquake being felt as of 4am someone in Dyersburg had done it.

The second earthquake, measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale, occurred 40 minutes later at 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday. It was about 7.8 miles northwest of New Bern when it hit.

Residents in the vicinity may have experienced some tremors.

Scientists expect that another strong earthquake will strike along this fault line in the future, but they can’t say when.
