Labcorp: North Carolina Company Offers Monkeypox Testing, Doubles US Testing Capability
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working to expand monkeypox testing nationwide.
Monkeypox is a rare virus with a rash that includes flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, and fluid-filled ridges. Unlike COVID-19, monkeypox is not new. It was first discovered in 1958.

Vaccines for the virus already exist. In addition, the virus is not as easy to infect as COVID-19.
These reasons are just a few of the reasons health professionals are less concerned about monkeypox becoming a global problem, as COVID-19 has done in the last few years.
Nevertheless, the US government is working to expand testing capabilities as well as access to vaccines and treatments.

Part of that initiative includes bringing the monkeypox PCR test to a national laboratory such as Labcorp, so you can take the test quickly if needed.
“Labcorp appreciates the opportunity to support the CDC in efforts to protect public safety and control the development of monkeypox,” said Dr. Brian Caveney, Chief Healthcare Officer and President of Labcorp Diagnostics. “We are initially capable of conducting all monkeypox tests in our main lab in North Carolina and expanding to other parts of the country as needed.”
Lapcorp expects to eventually be able to handle up to 10,000 tests per week, doubling the current capacity available at the CDC.
