Tacoma scored in the first minute when Sousa received a ball inside the area and fired a shot that was saved by Eric de la Cerda, Earthquakes second goalkeeper. Sosa then chased after the rebound, and hit the ball into the net for an early lead.

The challenge concluded the match in the 93rd minute, as Alvarez finished off a counterattack by defeating de la Cerda at the near post after receiving a ball from Marlon Vargas in the area.

With this win, Tacoma consolidated its lead at the top of the table, now five points clear of Columbus Crew 2 at the top of the league.
