A 4.8-magnitude earthquake has struck near Eureka in Northern California, according to the US Geological Survey.

An initial earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck off the coast of Northern California at 12:27 p.m. Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey.

The epicenter was estimated to be 47.5 miles southwest of Eureka.

It follows a string of other seismic activities in California, including a magnitude 2.7 earthquake east of Sonoma on September 14 and two other stronger earthquakes the day before, with magnitudes 4.4 and 3.9, that struck central Santa Rosa.

However, experts warn that small earthquakes like this don’t necessarily relieve fault pressure and delay larger tremors.
