Australian state reports fire emergency – BBC News
The head of state in eastern New South Wales, Australia, has declared a state of emergency for a week, with a growing threat to firefighters.
High temperatures and strong winds are forecast for the weekend, creating "extreme fire hazards."
Troops are preparing to evacuate some of the 4,000 people captured by the fires near Victoria.
Since September, the fire has killed 18 people and destroyed more than 1,200 homes across NSW and Victoria.
At least 17 people are missing this week alone after the fire.
