A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck California on Monday at 6:31 PM EDT. The earthquake's tremors were felt in Kern County, and residents shared reports of tremors from the Ventura, Mericabo and Santa Barbara areas. As reported by iHeart Radio, the US Geological Survey (USGS) indicated that the quake's epicenter was 24 kilometers in a southwest direction from Lamon, California. Earth's plates shook at a depth of 12.1. Residents of the Bakersfield area also felt the tremors of the earthquake.

“The floor started bouncing up and down,” one California resident

The earthquake that struck California alerted residents of various regions of the state. As reported by iHeart Radio, the USGS received a total of 472 reports from residents regarding the tremors they felt during the 4.1 magnitude earthquake.

One Lebak resident reported that they felt “the floor starting to bounce up and down.” To explain further, the first few tremors are the heaviest and after a few seconds of calm, smaller tremors can be felt which may last up to 10-15 seconds.

The Bakersfield resident wrote that the quake lasted for 30 seconds as the desk and chair rocked back and forth. However, he added: “I grew up in California, born and raised, and I love them. They don't scare me.”

Previous tremors shook California this month

The earthquake that occurred on Monday was not the first to hit the state, as it came hours after the city of Los Angeles shook with a magnitude of 2.9. According to USGS reports, California was hit by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake earlier in the month on June 9. The epicenter of the earthquake was at The Geysers and the tremors were located at a depth of 3.6 km.

Another earthquake that shook California was on June 6, with a magnitude of 3.6, and its epicenter was in Newport Beach. The first week of June witnessed two earthquakes on June 2 and 4, with magnitudes of 6.3 and 3.0, respectively.
