Rep. Jackson issues statement on former President Donald Trump's health

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Today, Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) released a statement regarding former President Trump's health and the care he is receiving following the assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania last Saturday.

“As President Donald J. Trump’s former physician, I was naturally, like the world, deeply concerned about his well-being following the assassination attempt on his life. That’s why I met with him in Bedminster, New Jersey, late that evening to personally check on him and offer my assistance in any way I could. I have been by President Trump’s side ever since, assessing and treating his injury daily,” said Congressman Jackson.

He says Trump is doing well.

He was shot in the right ear by a large-caliber rifle used by the would-be assassin. The bullet passed within a quarter of an inch of his head and struck the top of his right ear. The trajectory of the bullet produced a wound 2 cm wide that extended to the cartilaginous surface of the ear. There was initially extensive bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper part of the ear, Deputy Jackson said.

The swelling has gone down and the wound is starting to granulate and heal properly, according to Congressman Jackson.

Due to the highly vascular nature of the ear, there is still intermittent bleeding requiring the placement of a dressing. Given the large and blunt nature of the wound itself, no sutures were required, said MP Jackson.

Congressman Jackson said Trump was initially treated by medical staff at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler, Pennsylvania, who conducted a thorough assessment of additional injuries, including a CT scan of his head.

He will undergo further testing, including a full hearing exam, if necessary. He will follow up with his primary care physician as directed by the doctors who initially evaluated him, Rep. Jackson said.

Congressman Jackson is heading to the rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is currently with the former president.

“I will remain by his side throughout the weekend to provide any medical assistance he needs. I plan to return to Washington, D.C. on Monday and then return home to Amarillo, Texas at the end of the week,” Rep. Jackson said.
