More than four North Dakotans in COVID-19, including two residents in Burley County, were killed, reported by the State Department of Health Sunday.

Active cases of coronavirus in the state also reached a new high of 1,213. It was 51 points higher than the previous day.

The death of a woman in Burleigh County in the 1970s was the fifth coronavirus-related death in a state where the victim had no underlying health. Men in Burleigh County in the 1980s have underlying illnesses, as did a 40-year-old man from Sioux County and a 60-year-old Stark County man.

With four new deaths, the total number of states has increased to 125 since the pandemic in mid-March. Burley County currently has a total of 10 people. Sioux County currently kills two people.

States use this method to classify deaths. There are 101 cases by COVID-19, 14 cases not mainly caused by COVID-19, and 10 cases where official death records have not yet been submitted. Depending on state law, it can take up to 10 days.

Health officials on Sunday reported a total of 143 new cases of coronavirus in 21 counties, raising the state’s total to 8,587 with 7,249 recovery and 459 hospitalizations. There were 54 hospitalized patients, one less than the previous day.

The new cases included 44 in Burleigh County and 12 in Morton. The total number of active cases in the two counties was 418, the highest of the month. Burley continued to lead the state at 298.
