President Trump tout COVID recovery plasma therapy
President Donald Trump said, “Major therapeutic advances“On Sunday’s COVID-19. The President announced urgent approval that convalescent plasma therapy is a “very effective” coronavirus treatment.
“Today, I’m happy to make a truly historic announcement in the fight against the myriad of life-saving Chinese viruses,” Trump said at a White House press conference. “Today’s behavior will dramatically increase access to this treatment.”
“Based on science and data, the FDA has made an independent decision that treatment is safe and highly effective,” Trump said.
The US Food and Drug Administration has issued an emergency permit for the use of convalescent plasma as a treatment for COVID-19. Convalescent plasma therapy has been approved by the FDA based on preliminary data but is still in trials.
FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn said that convalescent plasma reduced the moral rate of COVID-19 by 35% on early detection.
“We promise to release a safe and potentially useful treatment for COVID-19 as soon as possible to save lives.” Said.. “We are encouraged by the early and promising data we have seen on convalescent plasma.”
“The FDA’s emergency approval for convalescent plasma is a milestone in President Trump’s efforts to save lives from COVID-19,” said Alex Hazard, Secretary of Health and Human Services. “The Trump administration early recognized the potential for plasma in a recovery period.”
“We are dreaming of developing a drug that will reduce mortality by 35%,” said Hazard. “This is a big step forward in treating patients.”
FDA Said Convalescent plasma is “effective in treating COVID-19, and the known potential benefits of the product outweigh the known potential risks of the product,” he said.
Authorities say more than 70,000 American patients were given convalescent plasma as part of an extended access program from the FDA and Mayo Clinic. Washington Post..
