According to DHEC, there are three most notable changes:
- Positive antibody results no longer classify individuals as presumptive cases
- Positive antigen testing from respiratory specimens that detect viral proteins classifies individuals as putative cases
- A new “Suspicious Cases” category was created for individuals who tested positive for antibodies or antigens from autopsy specimens of individuals who were not previously identified as cases.
“Suspicious cases” refers to individuals with the lowest evidence of COVID-19 infection, and all suspicious cases are tracked and investigated to become possible or confirmed cases of these individuals.
