SGPC Task Force, Sikh outfits protesting crash of missing birds at Golden Temple, 15 injured
At least 15 people were injured when a clash between Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak (SGPC) Task Force (SGPC) and members of several Sikh organizations protesting Guru Granth Sahib’s sarop episode turned violent at the Amritsar Golden Temple complex. Saturday.

It started early in the morning when Sukhjit Singh Khose, one of the protest leaders, closed the gate of Teja Singh Samundri Hall after he claimed he had been humiliated by SGPC employees. He along with his assistants sat at the side gate blocking the entrance to the head office for hours. When SGPC Additional Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhoora along with other staff opposed him, the two had a verbal clash, eyewitnesses said.
Around 13:00, SGPC staff forcibly took Khose inside and slammed him badly. After that, SGPC staff holding sticks and hedgehogs tried to evict the protesters counting from 10 to 15, leading to a scuffle in which Sarbjit Singh, a gurdwara body worker, suffered deep injuries near his chest. He was hospitalized and was being operated on by doctors. SGPC Additional Secretary Bijay Singh was also injured.
SGPC staff then forcibly beat protest leaders Balbir Singh Muchhal, Dilbag Singh, Manjit Singh Chabhal, Bibi Manjinder Kaur and Paramjit Singh Akali in a room and beat them badly. They were held captive for four hours. To protest the mass, their supporters gathered at the gate and began to raise banners.

Also, SGPC employees attacked journalists present in the country to stop them from covering the incident. A reporter for a local newspaper was slapped and his smartphone hijacked. They forcibly took a TV cameraman inside the office and held him in custody for several hours. He was released after reporters set up a dharna outside the headquarters and filed a police complaint.
SGPC officials claimed that it was the protesters who first attacked their employees.
“Activists were violating the Golden Temple maryad. “They crossed their borders when they blocked the entrance to the SGPC headquarters and used disgusting words against our employees,” said Harjinder Singh Dhami, secretary general of the Gurdwara body. SGPC staff hit and injured another group of Sik activists who came in support of the protesters.
Later, the car of SGPC Additional Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhoora, who was seen leading the SGPC task force at the time of the collision, was attacked by unidentified persons with sharp-edged weapons when he was turning it. His driver was injured even after Bhoore had a close escape.
