Debenhams must close with 12,000 job losses – BBC News
Debenhams, one of the biggest names on the street, is about to close as 12,000 workers are expected to lose their jobs. It’s the second huge blow to the UK retail sector in 24 hours, as Arcadia, the owner of Topshop, goes into administration. Debenham has already cut 6,500 jobs in recent months after the group joined the administration. For now, Debenham’s 124 stores and online business will remain open, but liquidators are moving to start clearing the stock and if no other offers are made, the stores will close at the end of March next year.
