First dynamic Covid surveillance system deployed in 195 countries
First, a team of scientists developed a new COVID-19 A global surveillance system that can dynamically track not only where the virus is currently, but where it is heading, how fast it arrives, and whether its speed is accelerating.

James Oehmke of Northwestern University and Charles Moss of the University of Florida have been working on a new surveillance system over the past four months.
“We can let leaders know where the outbreak is occurring before it occurs in overcrowded hospitals and morgues,” Post said. “The current system is static and our system is dynamic.”
Northwestern hosts the dashboard of the new Covid tracking system — available to everyone — with new and traditional metrics.
National dashboards are monitored to notify policy leaders around the world. Users have access to global metrics at their fingertips.
The new system and the first US surveillance report have been published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

“These methods have been tried and tested, but this is the first time they have been applied to disease monitoring,” Post said. “We have validated and published models and metrics for medical surveillance. We know they are working.”
