New Wisconsin COVID contact tracing app to be released this week
Wisconsinites will soon have new tools to stop the COVID epidemic and maintain the health of ourselves and others. This week, a new mobile app will be released to help track contracts.
A new app, WI Exposure Notification, allows people with Bluetooth-enabled phones to notify their recent direct contacts that their COVID test is positive. Those who test positive for the virus connect the code to the app. The app anonymously notifies recent proximity contacts (who downloaded and activated the app) about the test. No GPS data or personal information is stored, and anonymously shared Bluetooth signals are used to track contacts. The app is optional.
In a press release, Governor Evers said, “We are excited that this app may enhance the state’s response to COVID-19. A voluntary WI exposure notification app is a toolbox to stop the spread. Another tool. If you’re in close contact with someone who tested positive, you’ll be notified more quickly. You can take steps to keep yourself safe and protect those around you. Also, the app doesn’t collect or use the location of the device, so the user remains anonymous. ”

The app will be available on Wednesday, December 23rd and will be available for free in the Google Play Store and iPhone settings.
