Danvers’ Massbacks site has a “stable stream” on the first day
The Danvers Coronavirus Vaccination Site is the latest mass vaccination site open to Massachusetts residents, and the hotel location had a “stable stream” on Wednesday, giving hundreds of coveted shots. The site leader told Herald.
The Danvers DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel site was open to the public on Wednesday, servicing all eligible priority groups. This is the state’s fifth largest open vax site and the first large site north of Boston.
Curative Sly Douglas told Herald that there was a “stable flow” throughout the day and the site was moving at a pace of about 500 Pfizer doses on its opening day.
“We are very pleased to see that things are going well today,” said Douglas, the North-East region leader of Curative, which operates the Massbacks site. “Our heart is full of hope and enthusiasm.”
He said the site would steadily rise to about 3,000 shots per day.
They will set up 14 stations on the first day and will eventually acquire up to 27 stations.
“We keep the faucet on a little more, increase the number of slots per 30 minute block and hire more staff,” Douglas said.
One of the first people shot on Wednesday was an older woman who couldn’t see her grandchildren for months. She cried after being shot, Douglas said.
“This is an absolutely exciting time and a hopeful time for many,” he said. “The determination to find a way for these older patients in the 90’s to get here and make it happen makes me feel good.
“We told the staff that we would not only end this pandemic, but also give hope,” Douglas added. “You can’t spend $ 1 on hope and encouragement.”
Four other Massachusetts sites manage shots in Massachusetts. Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium was the first to open, with 23,000 doses so far.
Springfield’s Eastfield Mall opened its site last Friday, with both Boston’s Fenway Park and Reggie Lewis Center open to the public this week. The Baker administration expects at least seven mass vaccination sites to be established in the state.
As of Wednesday, the Danvers website was not scheduled to be available until February 14th. Every Thursday, new appointments will be available on a large number of vax sites. This week, over 55,000 new appointments will be unveiled next week.
