California’s COVID-19 vaccine eligibility will expand in March
Redding, CA – People between the ages of 16 and 64 in California’s underlying health will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine next month, according to a statement from the state on Friday.
“It gives people with cancer, diabetes, other illnesses, and immune problems the chance to survive and have no worries,” said Ruth Plato of Reading.

“I think it’s a great move because the more people who get it, the faster it helps cure the disease,” said Abhishek Chaturvedi of Fremont.
Even with the new guidelines, the state states that medical providers can use medical judgment as to whether or not to vaccinate someone.
Currently, Shasta County is still vaccinated against people over the age of 65. Shasta County is still in charge of the vaccine distribution program and said supply remains a problem.
“We have to do more than 65 people first,” said Kerri Schuette, spokesman for the Shasta Health and Human Services Agency. “Then go to people between the ages of 16 and 64 who are in these chronic health conditions.”
The state hopes to begin vaccination of this group by March 15, depending on the availability of vaccines.
“Our plan is to vaccinate if we have enough vaccine, but we are not vaccinating now,” said Schwet. “We have to wait for what the supply looks like at that point.”
Public health said it did not know what its supply would be by mid-March.
The Shasta County Public Health Service said the county is demanding vaccines from the state, but how much it delivers to the county is up to the state.
