Veteran actor Rasik Dave who played Nand in BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’ dies

MUMBAI: Actor Rasik Dave, known for his appearances in Hindi and Gujarati movies and shows, has died after a long illness, a family member has said.

He was 65 years old.

Dave, who had been suffering from kidney trouble for four years, breathed his last on Friday evening, his mother-in-law and veteran actress Sarita Joshi said.

“Dave had weakness, his blood pressure and kidney issues. He was on dialysis. He was there in the hospital for about 15-20 days. He was brought home on Thursday and I met him and he just smiled at me. He died at 7-7:30 p.m. yesterday,” Joshi told PTI.

Dave’s last rites took place around 7am on Saturday in the presence of family members and close friends.

He is best known for his role as Nand in BR Chopra’s “Mahabharat”.

The actor started his career in 1982 with a Gujarati film, titled “Putra Vadhu”.

In Hindi movies and TV shows, the actor is best known for his work in the movie “Jhoothi” directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, TV shows like “Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka”, “Sanskaar – Dharohar Apnon Ki” and the reality series “Nach”. Baliye’, in which he appeared with his wife and popular TV entertainer Ketki Dave.

The actor couple had formed a theater company.

“He was a good actor and an equally good person. He had an LLB degree but he loved acting. He and Ketki were much loved for their plays, especially when they traveled overseas to perform,” said Joshi said.

Dave is survived by his wife and actress Ketki Dave (of “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” fame), one son and one daughter.
