NEW DELHI: Actor and former Congress MP Govinda has joined the Shiv Sena led by CM Eknath Shinde THURSDAY. With Ravindra Waikar, the Shinde Sena now has an MP from this region. Congress leader late Gurudas Kamat was an MP from here in 2009-2014 when he defeated Gajanan Kirtikar.
Gajanan Kirtikar won in northwest Mumbai in 2014 and 2019 as a Shiv Sena candidate in alliance with the BJP. In 2014, he defeated Kamat by 1.83 lakh votes and defeated Nirupam in 2019 by 2.60 lakh votes.
State NCP (SP) chief Jayant Patil took a dig at Govinda. Govinda's films are no longer working. After the failure of his last film, he wanted something. Besides, the Shinde faction should have taken at least one working actor who was doing well, Patil said.
