Jordan Klepper slams Trump's 'oddly familiar' line

Daily Show correspondents Desi Lydic and Jordan Klepper on Tuesday compared President Joe Biden to anonymous guest Gwyneth Paltrow, who catastrophically he shit the bed and ran away from the scene.

“I know some people will say the guest just had a bad night,” Lydic said. “He’s a good man who’s spent his whole life serving as a guest and he’s earned the chance to stay and clean up his mess. But the fact is, we all know he shit the bed. We can’t watch him shit the bed. And now every time we see him, we’re going to wonder: Is he going to shit the bed again?”

Are we still talking about the guest? Klepper asked.

Lydic said Paltrow should maybe think twice about allowing the houseguest to stay another four years, and then he looked forward to January and there's a houseguest that no one wanted and no one in the house is allowed to have an abortion.

“I’m pretty sure we’re not talking about the guest,” Klepper said. So: Joe Biden screwed up.

But it wasn't long before they turned to that guest no one wanted, Donald Trump, who last week claimed to know nothing about the radical right-wing program Project 2025 created by many in his inner circle and pushed by many of his own aides.

Biden made it a campaign issue by tweeting Google Project 2025.

Last week, Trump said he had no idea who was behind it all and called some of the plans absolutely ridiculous and appalling.

Whatever they do, I wish them well, but I have nothing to do with them, Trump wrote on Truth Social.

This is the perfect example of Trump, Klepper pointed out. He hides his dog whistles next to plausible deniability.

His messages are full of contradictions, which means they also have something for everyone,

But one phrase in particular struck Klepper as both strange and oddly familiar.

The former president said something remarkably similar about Ghislaine Maxwell, who at the time was arrested and charged with grooming young girls for sexual abuse by her longtime associate Jeffrey Epstein.

I just wish him luck, frankly, Trump said in 2020.

She has since been convicted of a number of charges, including child sex trafficking, and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.
