Mark Blum actor dies of coronavirus
(CNN) – Mark Blum, a veteran theater actor also known for movies like “Desperately Seeking Susan” and “Crocodile Dundee”, died from complications from Covid-19, according to a statement by the Screen Actors Guild.
Blum was 69 years old. He passed away on Wednesday.
He is best known for the 1985 film “Desperately Seeking Susan”, in which he played Gary Glass, the careless husband of the character of Rosanna Arquette. He recently appeared in supporting roles on television in the HBO series “Succession”, the Netflix drama “You” and “Mozart in the Jungle” from Amazon.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Zarish, also an actress.
Blum was a staple in the New York theater community, appearing frequently on Broadway, including the rebirth of “Twelve Angry Men,” although he appears much more often off Broadway.
He was a regular player of Playwrights Horizons, a theater outside Broadway in New York.
“With love and a heavy heart, Playwrights Horizons pays tribute to Mark Blum, a longtime dear friend and accomplished artist who passed away this week,” the theater company tweeted. “Thank you, Mark, for all that you have brought to our theater and to theaters and audiences around the world. We will miss you.”
The actress and former candidate for governor of New York, Synthia Nixon, described her performances as “always deep, subtle, hilarious and moving in equal measure.”

Madonna, his co-star in “Desperately Seeking Susan,” posted photos of him on social media and called him “funny, warm, loving, and professional.”
It is the second coronavirus-related death to rock the New York theater community. Last week, Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally died of complications from a coronavirus at the age of 81.
