Veteran TV / Movie Character Actor Was 72 – Deadline
Walter Olkewicz, a versatile actor with a range ranging from Seinfeld at Twin peaks and beyond, died Tuesday in Reseda, Calif., after a long battle with infections. He was 72 years old and his death was confirmed by his son, screenwriter Zak Olkewicz.
Olkewicz’s long career began in the 1970s and continued until 2017, when knee disease eventually forced him to quit playing.
Zak Olkewicz issued a statement on behalf of the family. “He was a great man who pushed his love for creativity and the arts into everything he did. He passed this passion on to me and I can’t wait to pass it on to the grandchildren he loved so much.
Walter Olkewicz’s career included stints as bartender and Jacques Renault dealer on the original Twin peaks (he reprized the role in the Showtime reboot in 2017), an oil refinery worker on Grace under fire, a mafia lawyer in Joel Schumacher’s thriller The customer (1994), and in Seinfeld as Nick the Cable Guy in the 1996 episode “The Cadillac”. He also had many other roles in film and television.
Born May 14, 1948 in Bayonne, NJ, Olkewicz attended Bayonne High School, St. Mary of the Plains College in Kansas, and Colorado State University. His first role was in 1976 Future world.
In addition to her son, survivors include her stepdaughter, Katrina Rennells, an actress and screenwriter; and grandchildren Sadie and Declan Robert.
