Fashion show raises funds for women's center in south Surrey

A charity fashion show to support a South Surrey women's center has returned for its second year to the Semiahmoo Peninsula.

Sources Womens Place in South Surrey is hosting another fashion show on Thursday April 25. The In her Shoes event will help the center continue to provide free support to thousands of women in the community, a news release states.

The fundraising goal is $100,000, an increase from last year.

Womens Place is like an anchor for women because they feel welcomed and cared for in a judgment-free environment, Corina Carroll, executive director of Sources, said in a press release.

According to the Sources website, nearly 3,000 women visited Womens Place in 2023, receiving clothing, advice, food and hygiene products. This number is three times higher than the previous year, with most people accessing the service living on the streets or in their cars.

The fashion show, to be held at West Coast Gardens, will see volunteers and clients from Sources Community Resources Society walk the catwalk wearing clothing from Turnabout Luxury Resale, showcasing this year's theme, New Beginnings.

In Her Shoes not only inspires guests with stories of resilience, but also provides a fun evening through fashion, food and lots of shopping, the release continued.

In Her Shoes will feature food booths, an entertaining show and flower bouquets for all guests in attendance to take home. Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased at www.sourcesbc.ca/events/in-her-shoes/
