The Lady Dior House exhibition reinvents the most emblematic symbol of the House
Dior's Lady Dior exhibition is finally coming to our shores, and it's a sight to behold.

By far one of Dior’s most recognizable, iconic, and timeless designs, the Lady Dior first appeared on the arm of Princess Diana herself in 1995, during a trip to Paris. At the time, the Lady Dior didn’t yet have a name, but thanks to this association with Princess Diana, it was christened the Lady Dior. After this Parisian trip, the Lady Dior was seen on Princess Diana’s arm on numerous occasions, and it quickly became a staple of her personal style.
Like most objects associated with Princess Diana, the bag has become a timeless style icon. Today, it is a cornerstone of Dior’s collections. It’s not hard to see why the bag’s clean lines, with Dior’s iconic “cannage” motif, topped with rounded handles and gold-tone hardware, make it a simple yet timeless and elegant accessory that embodies everything Dior stands for.
It is well known that simplicity is often the best canvas on which creativity flourishes, and Dior recognized this with the Lady Dior, giving birth to the Lady Dior House exhibition. Now in its eighth year, the exhibition’s introduction presents the Lady Dior in a kaleidoscope of colors, representing the infinite dimensions of the refined accessory, as well as the craftsmanship that underlies its creation.
This exhibition opens with a retrospective that presents reinterpretations of the iconic Dior collection by artists from around the world, who were given carte blanche by Dior to reinvent the designs. Since 2016, this part of the exhibition has featured works by Mircea Cantor, Jeffrey Gibson, Ha Chong-Hyun and Mariko Mori, among others. It also features a selection of pieces from previous exhibitions by Brian Calvin, Alex Gardner and Minjung Kim, as well as other renowned artists.
Of course, since the touring exhibition is stopping off in Singapore, Singaporean artists are given pride of place in the Lady Dior As Seen By segment, with innovative reinterpretations by Grace Tan, Genevieve Chua and Samuel Xun. A manifestation of the house’s dialogue with the most promising talents and key figures in contemporary art, the works of Grace, Genevieve and Samuel are displayed at the forefront in a showcase where the artists unreservedly reimagine the Lady Dior as a symbol, rather than a mere accessory.
As part of the celebrations surrounding the exhibition's inaugural opening on our shores, Dior ambassador Tontawan Tantivejakul was in town to add some sparkle and star power to the proceedings, alongside local stars Chantalle Ng and Carrie Wong.
The Lady Dior exhibition is open to the public from July 18 to August 11, 2024, at 5 Jiak Kim Street, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Appointments are also available. here.
