TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Democratic Party Vice-President Benny K. Harman believes that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) does not intend to extend his term to three terms.
However, Benny suspects that the political forces around Jokowi have an interest in abusing Jokowi’s popularity.
It should be noted that the question of adding the presidential term to three terms and the postponement of legislative elections until 2027 arose in line with the speech on the limited amendments to the 1945 Constitution.
This was conveyed in a virtual discussion titled “Considering the Urgency of the Fifth Edition of the 1945 Constitution Amendment: Is It Necessary?” », Saturday (9/11/2021).

“I believe that President Jokowi does not intend to increase his power by adding three more terms to extend his term until 2027, but it is the political forces around him that have an interest,” Benny said.
“And maybe want to take advantage, abuse proximity, abuse the presidency, abuse the popularity of President Jokowi to advance their hidden interests,” he added.
Benny’s mistrust seems reasonable because there are big interests to be reached, especially in economic terms.
For example, adding the presidential term until 2027, Benny said to secure investors who have invested funds for the construction of the new State Capital (IKN) project in Kalimantan.
Because, if there is a change of regime, there are fears that the development of IKN will continue and cause big losses to investors.
“Investors also need guarantees, whether the president comes or continues. If this is stopped, investors will suffer losses,” Benny said.
Therefore, Benny hopes the public will criticize this ongoing speech.
He recalled that if the addition of the three-term presidential term actually happened, then democracy would recede as it was during the New Order era.
“So what do I think the amendment is for and who and is the momentum good?” Benny concluded.
