Court orders authorities to produce Imran Khan and Bushra on April 4

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court on Monday ordered the superintendent of Adiala Prison to produce before it former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi on April 4.

District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra made the order while hearing the bail application in the cases relating to the couple's alleged forgery of Toshakhana's gift receipts, while an application Bail request for Khan was also filed in the May 9 riots case.

The decision came after another district and sessions court last week approved an application to produce Khan and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi before the court, ordering authorities to ensure the appearance of the politicians on April 20.

The petition, seeking their production, was heard by Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas in connection with the Parliament attack case against Khan and others.

Khan's lawyer Naeem Panjotha had argued during the hearing that the superintendent of Adiala jail had not obeyed the order of any court. He had urged the court to ensure that prison officials followed the orders and produced Khan.

The former prime minister's lawyer had requested the court to order Khan's production in the courtroom.

“The High Court has ruled that a meeting with a political leader can be done by video link.”

Panjotha had added that the internet was working in Adiala jail, but in the case of the PTI founder, it had stopped working.

“The superintendent of Adiala jail is afraid to bring the PTI founder through video link,” the lawyer had said.
