LHC disposes of appeal regarding Imran Khan's security in prison

The Lahore High Court (LHC) resolved a petition seeking full security for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan by accepting its withdrawal on Tuesday.

During the hearing presided over by Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, the petition filed by PTI Lawyers Forum Chairman Afzaal Azeem was discussed.

Speaking to the lawyer, the Chief Justice acknowledged the importance of concerns over the security of the PTI founder, saying they are not being ignored and expressed his hopes for the betterment of the country.

Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan praised Advocate General Punjab Khalid Ishaq for providing adequate support to the court, appreciating his efforts.

During earlier proceedings regarding the petition filed in Lahore to provide full security to the PTI founder in jail, Punjab Advocate General Khalid Ishaq informed the court about the security arrangements.

During today's hearing, the petitioner's lawyer said that a similar petition was filed by Bushra Bibi in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), so they chose to temporarily withdraw this request.

Therefore, the court ruled on Imran Khan's security argument on the basis of withdrawal.

Earlier, on March 28, Afzaal Azeem, President of Lawyers' Forum, had submitted a request to provide complete security to former Prime Minister Imran Khan during his imprisonment.

On March 29, while hearing the application, the LHC ordered to assess the level of security concerns of Imran Khan.

Additionally, on March 7, Rawalpindi Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) apprehended three suspected terrorists, foiling a possible major incident at Adiala Prison.

According to Rawalpindis City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani, the joint operation successfully averted a significant threat to Adiala Prison, leading to the arrest of three Afghan terrorists equipped with heavy weapons.

Security measures around Adiala Prison were tightened on March 16, with the installation of barbed wire, deployment of additional staff and strict access controls, all in response to heightened security concerns.
