Trump admits telling Secret Service on January 6 that he 'would like to go down' to Capitol
Former President Donald Trump acknowledged Wednesday that he told the Secret Service that he wanted to go to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, describing a different tone of an event that has become a controversial detail of a former aide's testimony. “It’s crazy stuff,” Trump said Wednesday. “I sat in the back and you know what I said? I said, 'I'd like to go because I see a lot of people coming down.' They said, “Sir, it's better if you don't.” I said, 'Well, I'd like to. […] Whatever you think.'”
“It was the tone of the conversation,” Trump added.
Shortly after Hutchinson's 2022 testimony, the former president disparaged her in articles on Truth Social, saying he barely knew her other than I had heard very negative things about her ( a totally false and elusive one.)
Hutchinson's account came under scrutiny after sources said two witnesses could testify under oath that the incident did not occur.
A Republican-led House committee investigating the Jan. 6 committee released a report in March accusing it of downplaying testimony from other witnesses who did not corroborate Hutchinson's account.
