Jokowi wants coconuts to be turned into jet fuel: It's a big job

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) opened the 51st International Coconut Conference and Exhibition (Cocotech) in 2024 in Surabaya, East Java. Jokowi proposed turning coconuts into jet fuel.
“I see that a lot of coconut waste is now being processed into bioenergy. I think this is important in the future, it can continue to be developed. Then, coconut can also become bio-avtur. This is also our big work so that this use can increase and interest other countries,” Jokowi said in a video broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Monday (22/7/2024).
Jokowi said that Indonesia has 3.8 million coconut areas with a production of 2.8 million tons per year. According to Jokowi, this number is very large.

“Those with significant production potential are the provinces of North Sulawesi and Riau,” Jokowi said.
“Our exports are not a small amount, $1.55 billion is also a big number, and we can increase it again if we are serious, if we want to take coconut issues seriously,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi advised to increase the production and downstream of coconuts to increase added value. According to Jokowi, the quality of coconut seeds is very important.
“Second, maintenance and upkeep are very important,” he said.
The coconut conference, Jokowi explained, is very important for Indonesia as the world's second largest coconut producer. Indonesia, he added, has an interest in making the world aware of the great potential of coconut.
