Islamabad, Sep 18 (PTI) Jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday alleged that the government was seeking a constitutional amendment to extend the terms of three senior officials to keep control over the investigation into the February general election fraud and to know the reality of the May 9 violence. Khan asked the Supreme Court to probe his allegation that the election was stolen to deny his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf victory and that the May 9, 2023 violence was staged to suit his party. Addressing the media at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan said that the government, despite losing previous political battles, is now resorting to these amendments to protect fraudulent election results and shield the ruling officials, The Express Tribune reported. “They are amending the constitution to extend the terms of three arbitrators,” Khan said, clarifying that he was referring to Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. He Khan warned that if Chief Justice Isa is removed, investigations into the May 9 protests and the alleged rigged elections will be launched, and criticized the delay in addressing the events of May 9, accusing the government of trying to dismantle his party. Khan expressed concern that if the new chief justice takes office, the true events of May 9 will be exposed. He also criticized the government for undermining Pakistan’s judicial and electoral processes and delaying the court’s decisions on the February 8 elections. He noted that he had been the target of more than 140 court cases before May 9, adding that Attempts to remove him from office only intensified after that date.
