Tokyo / Seoul, March 21 (Yonhap)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cho Tae-Yul, expressed his expectations for a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea for the next Summit of Economic Cooperation in Asia-Pacific (APEC) later this year.
Cho made this remark during his bilateral talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tokyo, held one day before the planned trilateral meeting of foreign ministers involving Japan. Cho arrived in Tokyo earlier during the day.
“We will work together to make sure that President Xi Jinping's visit to Korea on the occasion of the APEC summit in Gyeongju serves again in bilateral relations,” said Cho at the start of the talks.
“We hope to promote mutually beneficial and practical cooperation projects that help improve the livelihoods of the inhabitants of the two countries when President Xi visits,” he said.

Calling China and South Korea “inseparable neighbors”, Wang stressed the need to maintain “frequent exchanges” to advance bilateral links.
“China and South Korea can each make significant contributions to the peace and stability of our region and the world,” said Wang.
Friday's talks came while the two Asian neighbors seek to manage and improve their bilateral links as key economic and regional partners despite the differences in the field of security.
The ministers had to discuss the ways in which the two countries can cooperate concerning the next APEC summit in Seoul which is expected to welcome between the end of October and early November. China is the host of the multilateral rally next year.
They were also likely to discuss efforts to facilitate the exchanges of people to people, following the announcement of Beijing in November from last year to give a waiver of a visa for South Korean travelers in the short term.
South Korea said Thursday that it would introduce a derogation from a temporary visa for Chinese group travelers in the third quarter, widely considered as a reciprocal measure of China's decision.
