Reported about billboards for Jokowi’s birthday, Mayor of Solo is ready to participate in the legal process
RRI.CO.ID, Surakarta – The installation of billboards celebrating the birthday of former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), carried out by the Solo City Government (Pemkot), ultimately had long-term consequences.
Solo Mayor Respati Ardi was reported by two residents accompanied by the Mega Bintang Legal Aid Institute (LBH) to the District Attorney’s Office (Kejari) regarding alleged abuse of power to install billboards on Friday, July 3, 2026.
In response to the report, the Mayor of Solo, when met, stated that he would follow the applicable legal procedure. He also expressed his thanks for the report provided.
“Of course we respect the process and we will follow and adapt to the applicable regulations. Thank you very much, we will follow the process,” said Respati Ardi.
It was previously known that two residents, on behalf of elements of the Surakarta City Society, Budi Kuswanto and Tri Sapto, accompanied by the legal advisor of the Mega Bintang Legal Aid Institute (LBH), Muhammad Arnas, reported allegations of abuse of power regarding the installation of billboards congratulating the 65th birthday of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
They believe that it is necessary to be clear about the use of the budget for the installation of billboards indicating the Solo City Government. Journalist Budi Kuswanto said there was an alleged criminal act of abuse of power committed by the mayor in connection with the installation of billboards.
“Together with friends from LBH Mega Bintang, we submitted a report regarding alleged criminal abuse of power committed by the mayor in connection with the installation of billboards congratulating the former president’s birthday,” said Budi Kuswanto.
Budi also said that if the installation was done with personal funds, his party would ask for transparency regarding funding, especially if the billboards included the name of the city government.
Separately, the journalist’s lawyer, Muhammad Arnas, said that the reporting letter was received by the Solo Prosecutor’s Office. He hopes law enforcement officials can dig deeper into the information presented in the report. (JK)
