Usually I'm on world records, but I can stand behind Mary Peters, who played ping pong for 120 people
UPI News–Mary Peters, who won gold at the 1972 Munich Olympics, joined the Ormeau Table Tennis Club in Belfast to try to break the record for most consecutive opponents in a table tennis rally.
The club originally broke the record in 2017, but was acquired in 2022 by Chinese player Wen Wei Xu and England's Brighton Table Tennis Club.
The club needed at least 117 players in the rally to equal the record.
“We believe it still needs to be counted and verified, but we think we have reached 120,” coach Keith Knox told the Belfast Telegraph.
Normally I don't get excited about world records. I think it might have been that book of theirs that went around in 7th grade that we all bought at the book fair that was super disappointing, or the short-lived TV show that I vaguely remember seeing, but something about them just doesn't do it for me. It never really got me going, and it felt like people who tried it were always looking at the weirdest records, or creating some weird hobby just to set a record.
This one is pretty good though. First of all, it is unique. I think there are a lot of boring records out there, but I watched this one all the way through because of the sheer number of people involved. It was interesting. Who would have ever thought of having 120 people play ping pong?
I also like this one because while I don't care about world records, kids do and there were a lot of kids in this video, which seems like a nice gesture from the Mary Peters.

Absolute liability people. Barely got the ball over the net. Some of these people look like they stink of ping pong and the odds of one of them screwing up the volley/return seem like -300. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I watched the video. Now I want to see this man how many volleys he can return blindfolded. That would be electric.
