Gordon Paces Heptathletes on day one at Azusa
AZUSA, California. The Hawaii women's track and field team opened competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday with day one of the heptathlon.
Sammie Gordon led the way for the four Rainbow Wahine in the multis events, leading Group C with 3,258 points across four events. Gordon ended her day by lowering her own school record in the heptathlon 200-meter dash with a time of 24.46 seconds, beating her previous best by 0.57 seconds and moving into 10th place.e all-time overall outdoors at UH.
Gordon also placed in the top five of her group in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.49 seconds and the high jump with a mark of 1.70m (5-7.00).
Anna Marx And Catherine Touchette achieved the second highest point total with 2,911 and 2,735 points respectively. Marx set personal bests in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter sprint, with a time of 15.19 in the hurdles and a 25.77 in the 200 meters. Touchette set a trio of outdoor PRs, jumping 1.58 m (5-2.25) in the high jump, recording a throw of 8.71 m (28-7.00) in the shot put and running a 25.90 in the 200 meters.
Grace Blanchette also set three personal bests: he ran 15.04 in the 100 meter hurdles, while he turned in a throw of 9.47 meters (31-1.00) in the shot put and clocked a 26.86 in the 200 meters, good for a total of 2,699 points.
The Rainbow Wahine continue action at the Bryan Clay Invitational Friday starting at 5 a.m. HT with distance events and the conclusion of the heptathlon.
