Stanhope, Lawson post top-five program times on day one of the Virginia Challenge
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Distance runners Miranda Stanhope And Katherine Lawson recorded top five program times on the first day of the Virginia Challenge on Friday evening at Lannigan Field.
In the 5,000-meter invitational, Stanhope crossed the finish line in 16:11.00, placing her No. 2 in program history, while Lawson followed closely in 16:21.88, good for fourth in the JMU record book. Former all-American Mollie DeFrancesco owns the school record with an effort of 16:03.97 set in 2002.
How it happened
- Senior Erica Molman won her third consecutive pole vault competition, jumping 3.79 m (12-5.25), while freshman Madelyn Mills achieved a score of 3.44m (11-3.5) for sixth place.
- Junior Holly Mpassy ran a season-best 54.77 in the 400-meter dash for third place.
- Sophomore Kaia Putman rounded out the top five in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.86.
- In the spire, second year Believe Ketchum placed fifth (11:18.15) while he was a freshman Kristin Giordano ran a personal best of 11:25.21 for sixth place.

The Dukes return to Lannigan Field for the second and final day of the Virginia Challenge. The action starts at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw.
