Canyon Crest advances to SoCal tennis semifinals, loses 4-3 to top seed – San Diego Union-Tribune
The Canyon Crest Academy girls tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Southern California Tennis Regional Championships on Friday before losing 4-3 to No. 1 seed Palos Verdes at the Claremont Club.
The Ravens won three of the four singles matches, but were swept in straight sets in the three doubles matches.
Winning in the singles for CCA were Chaeyule Kang 6-4, 6-1, Alyssa Liu 6-1, 6-1 and Kylie Halabo 6-1, 6-1.
Canyon Crest advanced to the semifinals by defeating Palos Verdes 4-3 in a morning quarterfinal. Kang and Liu won their singles matches against Palos Verdes.
Canyon Crest finished the season 25-5 and won the San Diego Section Div. 1 title for the third time in the past four years.
“I have been consistently impressed not only with the quality of the tennis, which is as good as any team playing at CCA,” Ravens coach Kevin Brown said. “It's not about the tennis part; it's the teammate part.
“If you do well at this level, that's what coaches aim for. It's about the team and having fun.”
Del Norte lost to Portola 5-2 in the quarterfinals. The Nighthawks' wins came from Clara Chubin in singles and Kayla Baha/Lauren Dinh in doubles.
