Injured Georgia Plimmer has been ruled out of cricket for the rest of the year
New Zealand opening match Georgia Plimmer has been ruled out of cricket for the rest of the year after suffering a bone stress reaction in her groin. The injury will make her unavailable for the home ODI series against Australia in December.
A cricket version from New Zealand said that Plimmer experienced pain in her left hip joint during recent ODI series in India last month. A subsequent MRI and assessment by a specialist upon return to New Zealand confirmed the injury. She is expected to need six weeks of rest and rehabilitation, with a gradual return to high-speed running in January.
Along with the Australian ODIs, Plimmer will also miss the domestic competitions Hallyburton Johnstone Shield and the Super Smash.
“We're very sorry this is happening to Georgia at the top of their game,” New Zealand women's head coach Ben Sawyer said.
“She is certainly a loss for us heading into an important series against Australia. After her recent success at the World Cup and in India it is disappointing that she cannot continue that form for the Wellington Blaze and against Australia next month. Georgia is determined to recuperate well and return as soon as possible and we wish her a smooth recovery.”
Plimmer was New Zealand's second highest points scorer during their success 2024 T20 World Cup campaigngood for 150 runs in six innings. She also made scores of 25, 41 and 39 in the ODI series against India that followed, which New Zealand lost 2–1.
