Troy Taylor, football coach of Stanford, fired after bullying report

Stanford dismissed Troy Taylor on Tuesday, less than a week after an ESPN report had sketched cases in which he reportedly bullied the female athletic staff employees and belittles during his two seasons as a football coach of the Cardinal.

Former Stanford star Quarterback Andrew Luck, now the general director of the program, announced the relocation.

“After constant consideration, it is clear to me that our program needs a reset,” Luck said in a statement. “In consultation with university leadership, I no longer believe that coach Taylor is the right coach to lead our football program. Coach Taylor has been informed today and the change is immediately in force.”

Luck said that a search for the next coach started, and an acting coach can be named after the 2025 season.

Taylor, 56, received a warning by the university in February 2024, in which ESPN reported that he signed and acknowledged that he could be fired if the behavior continued.

A few months later he was cited in the second investigation into 'a constant pattern of behavior'.

“I willingly satisfied the research, accepted the recommendations that came from them and used them as a learning opportunity to grow in leadership and how I deal with others,” Taylor said in a statement released via Stanford after the ESPN report.

“I look forward to working together and colleagues with my colleagues, so that together we can achieve success for our football program.”

Stanford placed consecutive 3-9 seasons under the Taylor watch.

Taylor built a record of 30-8 over three seasons in Sacramento State before he came to the Cardinal after David Shaw-De Winnen Hoofdcoach in the School History Department after the 2022 season.

Luck, who became the Stanford GM on November 30, was at the Cardinal of 2008-11.
