Maine finished the season 24-8-6 and won the Hockey East title for the first time since 2004. Just a few days after the Black Bears season ended with a 5-1 loss for Penn State in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the schedule started to change.

Senior attackers Lynden Breen and Nolan Renwick reportedly signed professional contracts on Sunday. On Monday afternoon, senior attacker Taylor Makar, a seventh round concept choice of the Colorado Avalanche in 2021, signed an entry level deal with the team. Makar, who made 18 goals and 12 assists for the Black Bears this last season after the switch from Umass, would be at the Avalanches AHL branch, the Colorado Eagles, for the rest of the season. Makar was the only player in Maines selection last season that was drawn up.

Harrison Scott, an attacker who spent two years at Maine after switching from Bentley, is reportedly also signed an entry -level contract with the Dallas Stars, and will at the Texas Stars, the AHL Affiliate teams, for the rest of the season. Scott led the Black Bears in the scoring of this season with 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points.

Two other seniors who leave the program, defender David Breazeale and Ross Mitton, were able to sign Pro contracts in the coming days.
