Google Maps adds key features that were missing from CarPlay but not Android Auto
You can finally use Google Maps to report road incidents (crashes, speeding tickets, construction) via Apple CarPlay, though for some reason this functionality isn't yet available on Google's own Android Auto platform.
According to a report from 9to5Google, CarPlay users are starting to see the feature in their cars, but it's not yet available to everyone. If the feature is available, you'll see a danger triangle on the right side of the map.
This is a long time coming: The reporting feature has been available in Google Maps on Android and iOS since 2019, but it's a bit of a mystery why it disappears as soon as you plug your phone into your car's dashboard.
An Android Auto update could also be on the horizon, but there's no sign of it yet, and Google Maps hasn't always been on par in terms of what it offers on CarPlay and its own Android Auto.

Crowdsourced user reports are a great way to let drivers know what's going on along their journey in real time. Reports can be submitted not only on Google Maps, but also on Apple Maps and Waze (now owned by Google).
But Apple Maps and Waze have long allowed you to submit these reports from your car's dashboard or phone screen, and given how many people now use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it seems like a natural option to add.
Maybe we should be thankful that Google has finally updated its Google Maps interface on Apple CarPlay, and hopefully a similar upgrade for Android Auto-connected drivers isn't far off.
The more people who can record accidents, traffic jams, lane closures, speed traps, and more, the better it is for drivers who need to change the way they drive. Android 15 is due to be released soon, so we might see more improvements to Google Maps at the same time.
