A Stateline couple lead a medical mission trip to help Haiti earthquake survivors

ROCKFORD (Rex) – Two health care workers at Stateline lead a group in providing relief to a country recovering from a disaster.

Haiti was hit by a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.2 on Saturday 14th August.

It caused death and destruction, and left survivors struggling to recover.

As the country grapples with health care challenges, the Friends of the Children group is doing what it can to help.

Friends of the Children is a mission group that has been providing services in Haiti since the late 1990s.

An eight-man medical team, led by Dr John Underwood and his wife Linda Underwood, will be on the ground with a truckload of supplies.

Nurse Linda Underwood said a large pickup truck was full of medicine, supplies, clean drinking water, rice, pasta and cooking oil for the homeless villagers unable to provide any food for their families.”

Volunteers usually treat up to 300 patients per day during the mission trip.

The medical team will be present for at least one week and the children’s friends will be re-evaluated to see if another team should be sent.
